Bungie announced it will delay the next Marathon update from this month to December, citing a shift away from a strict seasonal schedule to allow more time for building, testing, and refining features before release. The decision follows player feedback and technical challenges that disrupted progression pacing. The company emphasized the need for greater flexibility to enhance content quality and address issues observed in earlier updates.

The October refresh will reset progression and the in-game economy, refresh rewards, and introduce a new Nightfall update on October 6 to provide players with a fresh starting point. This reset aims to correct imbalances that accelerated some players into endgame content while leaving others behind, addressing difficulties in engaging with Extraction mode.

Between October and the December Symbiosis update, Bungie plans to reintroduce the Vault Breaker PvE mode temporarily and experiment with additional gameplay modes, including a new Runner shell and a social space with a firing range. These changes reflect ongoing efforts to refine the game’s systems and expand player engagement before permanent additions are introduced.

The December Symbiosis update will permanently add PvE as a core mode, alongside a new Runner shell, a social space with a firing range, and an experimental Team Deathmatch mode. Bungie described Symbiosis as the beginning of a broader evolution, with plans to share further updates through Dev Insights videos and regular development blogs starting later this month.
