GTA 5's 'Become a celebrity' mod is almost weirdly fully featured
A new mod for GTA 5 transforms players into recognizable celebrities in Los Santos, complete with fame mechanics and repeatable quests to boost public approval.
A modder has created a "Become a Celebrity" feature for Grand Theft Auto V, allowing players to gain fame and public approval through repeatable in-game activities. The mod tracks two separate metrics—public approval and overall fame—each influenced by different actions. Players begin with zero fame and must complete mundane tasks like busking at 20 locations to earn modest rewards of around $500 and 0.5 fame points per performance.
The busking mechanic proves challenging due to the chaotic environment of Los Santos, where flying cars, gang conflicts, and environmental hazards disrupt performances. Players report that NPCs often fail to react positively, with some ignoring the player entirely or even dying mid-performance. Occasionally, the animation for playing guitar fails to trigger, leaving the character standing motionless for the duration.
After completing all 20 busking gigs, players unlock higher-tier activities such as Meet and Greets, where fans gather to celebrate the player’s newfound fame. These events unfold in the Los Santos business district, though the experience is marred by the same technical issues, with NPCs often failing to animate properly or suffering fatal accidents during the event.
The mod, created by the same author behind the LifeInvader Business Mod, demonstrates a surprisingly robust feature set for a community-driven project. While the implementation is functional, it highlights the limitations of GTA V’s modding framework, particularly in handling NPC interactions and animations reliably.
