How to fish in Valheim
Valheim players must purchase a fishing rod from vendor Haldor for 350 coins and use bait to catch fish, requiring stamina management and precise timing.
Fishing in Valheim requires a fishing rod, which cannot be crafted but must be purchased from Haldor, a vendor found in the black forest biome. Haldor sells fishing rods for 350 coins and basic bait for 10 coins per 20 pieces. Players who have not yet located Haldor can refer to guides on increasing inventory size to aid in finding the NPC vendor.
Fishing in Valheim is stamina-based, meaning players must manage their stamina carefully to reel in fish successfully. Before fishing, players should consume food to fully restore their stamina bar and bring stamina meads as a precaution. The process involves equipping the fishing rod, selecting bait, and casting the line into water using the attack button.
To hook a fish, players must click the block button when the bobbin is tugged, indicating a fish is biting. Once hooked, holding down the block button reels in the fish while draining stamina; running out of stamina causes the fish to escape. Players must maintain sufficient stamina to successfully land the fish.
After reeling in a fish, players can target it with their crosshairs and press the use button to pick it up. Fish are commonly found in bodies of water across Valheim’s biomes, making fishing a viable activity during breaks from combat or exploration.
