Inzoi's director says he is 'very much focused on our core goals' as he announces a multiplayer roleplaying mode designed to be like Ready Player One
Inzoi’s director announced a new multiplayer roleplaying mode, Canvastown, inspired by Ready Player One, allowing players to create and roleplay as a single character in an online shared space.
Inzoi’s director Hyungjin 'Kjun' Kim acknowledged past challenges in developing the life simulation game, describing the process as harder than anticipated. He revealed that alongside the base game, a new mode called Canvastown is in development, shifting focus from overseeing multiple lives to roleplaying a single character. Kim emphasized that the goal is to capture memorable moments in life simulation rather than mundane daily routines.
Canvastown will enable players to create their own Zoi and customize their house before entering an online space called 'AR Company,' designed for up to 50 players to interact under mutual consent. The mode will also feature NPC Zois, allowing players to assign roles and direct scenarios like a movie director. Kim highlighted the potential for 'script mods' to introduce mini-games such as car racing, though it remains unclear if players will create these mods.
Kim compared the experience to Ready Player One, aiming to create a world where players can step away from reality and live out different lives. He acknowledged the current build’s shortcomings, stating there is 'a very long way to go' before Canvastown is ready. The mode is described as a 'side project,' with Inzoi Studio remaining 'very much focused on our core goals.'
The announcement follows criticism of Inzoi’s early access version, with life sim expert Mollie Taylor calling it a 'shallow imitation' of The Sims. Kim’s focus on Canvastown contrasts with the game’s original vision, raising questions about whether the studio is overextending itself amid competition from Paralives, which had a stronger early access debut.
