Overwatch's newest hero is a robo-vampire, and reworks are on the way for Roadhog and Sombra
Blizzard unveiled Doctrine, a vampire cyborg hero, at BlizzCon, alongside reworks for Sombra and Roadhog and a new map, Grímsvötn.
Blizzard has introduced Doctrine, Overwatch’s newest hero, during the BlizzCon opening ceremony. The character is a vampire with a cyborg arm and mechanical bats, and his debut trailer suggests a connection to Doomfist. A hero trial for Doctrine is currently available and will remain open through the weekend, though his full release date has not been confirmed.
In addition to the new hero, Blizzard announced upcoming reworks for Sombra and Roadhog, two of the game’s most frequently adjusted characters. While specific changes were not detailed, Sombra is set to transition into a support role, and Roadhog’s adjustments aim to reduce player frustration. The updates follow a pattern of frequent tweaks to these heroes since their introduction.
A new map, Grímsvötn, will be added as part of the next story act in Overwatch’s year-long narrative. The announcement comes alongside the reveal of the next Overwatch Spotlight event, scheduled for February 2027. The Spotlight event previously led to the simultaneous release of five new heroes, raising expectations for future updates.
Blizzard’s rapid pace of hero additions continues with Doctrine, following the release of D. Va’s rework on August 11. The company has not provided a release date for Doctrine, but the hero trial offers players an early opportunity to experience the new character before its full debut.
