Squadron 42 has a Steam page

Star Citizen’s single-player mode, Squadron 42, has received a Steam page, which includes system requirements and an official release window of Q2 2027. This marks a concrete step forward after years of shifting schedules and skepticism about its development. The page lists a 150GB install size, reflecting the game’s ambitious scope compared to other recent releases. The system requirements notably omit modern features like ray tracing or DirectX 12, suggesting a more traditional technical baseline.

A new trailer for Squadron 42 has been released, emphasizing military science-fiction tropes such as combat sequences and celebrity voice acting. The trailer features appearances by Mark Hamill, Gary Oldman, Rhona Mitra, and others, many of whom filmed their scenes years ago. The player character, available in male and female versions, is prominently featured, with the female version voiced by Alix Wilton Regan. The trailer’s tone leans heavily into action-driven military themes, which may appeal to fans of the genre.

The Steam page’s listing of a Q2 2027 release date provides a firm deadline after previous delays, including a postponement announced in August to avoid overlapping with Grand Theft Auto 6. This move aims to address concerns about the game’s protracted development cycle, which has seen multiple release date changes documented on a dedicated wiki. The presence of a Steam page suggests the team is preparing for a more traditional distribution approach.

Despite the progress, skepticism remains due to past issues, such as a recent Star Citizen livestream described as a disaster. The game’s history of delays and the absence of modern system requirements on its Steam page add to the cautious outlook. However, the inclusion of a release window and system details offers tangible evidence of forward momentum for Squadron 42.
