CD Projekt will release a remaster of *The Witcher 3* on September 29 and a new expansion, *Songs of the Past*, in 2027, aiming to refine the original while expanding its story.
CD Projekt is preparing a remaster of *The Witcher 3*, set for release on September 29, alongside a new expansion titled *Songs of the Past* scheduled for 2027. The remaster aims to enhance the game’s visuals, performance, and overall feel, positioning it closer to a modern release than a simple re-release. The expansion will continue the narrative established in the base game and its two prior expansions, *Hearts of Stone* and *Blood and Wine*.
Marcin Blacha, vice president of narration and lead writer for *The Witcher 3*, stated that the original game is not considered untouchable and may benefit from refinements. He noted that revisiting the game reveals opportunities for improvements, such as making characters like Dandelion more nuanced or adding deeper choices and consequences in Geralt’s interactions.
Blacha emphasized that the changes are not driven by flaws in the original but reflect his own evolving perspective over the past decade. He also highlighted the involvement of both veterans from the original development team and newer contributors at Fool’s Theory, ensuring the expansion remains driven by passion rather than nostalgia.
The remaster will be available for free to owners of the base game, while *Songs of the Past* is planned for a 2027 release. The updates reflect CD Projekt’s commitment to refining and expanding one of gaming’s most acclaimed RPGs.
