Get to Know Our Partner, Bel Group
Bel Group, known for brands like The Laughing Cow and Babybel, partners with Perfect Day to launch Nurishh, an animal-free cream cheese made with sustainable whey protein.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Bel Group, a global cheese leader behind brands such as The Laughing Cow®, Babybel®, and Boursin®, has partnered with Perfect Day to introduce Nurishh, its first animal-free dairy brand. Nurishh features a lactose-free cream cheese spread produced using sustainable whey protein, offering a product that matches traditional cream cheese in taste and texture while reducing environmental impact. The collaboration aligns with Bel’s mission to provide healthier and responsible food options accessible to a broad audience.
Delphine Chatelin, Bel’s VP of Innovation, emphasized the company’s commitment to making healthy and sustainable food a fundamental right through its collective motto, "For All. For Good." Bel’s strategy focuses on five pillars: sustainable agriculture, healthier food, product accessibility, responsible packaging, and climate change mitigation. The partnership with Perfect Day is seen as a natural fit, combining Bel’s industry expertise with innovative food technology to address future food challenges.
Caroline Sorlin, Bel’s Chief Venture Officer, highlighted the necessity of reinventing the food model to meet sustainability and accessibility goals. She noted that working with startups like Perfect Day is essential for driving innovation and disruption in the industry. The partnership leverages Perfect Day’s precision fermentation technology to create animal-free dairy alternatives, with Nurishh’s cream cheese serving as the first example of this collaboration in the U.S. market.
Bel has set an ambitious carbon reduction strategy to limit global warming to below 1.5°C across its value chain. To achieve this, the company is rebalancing its portfolio to include more plant-based and beyond-dairy offerings. Precision fermentation was prioritized for its potential to deliver tasty and nutritious alternatives. Nurishh’s launch within a year of the partnership underscores the rapid progress, with additional projects already in development to expand the animal-free dairy portfolio.
