'VisionQuest' Officially Makes the MCU's Most Overlooked Show Essential Viewing

Marvel’s new Disney+ series *VisionQuest* follows White Vision as he lives in self-imposed isolation in Edinburgh, unaware that his past is far more complicated than he realizes. His constructed mindscape allows him to interact with other artificial intelligences, including Ultron, who challenges his denial about Wanda’s Hex in Westview. Vision dismisses the idea outright, but Ultron’s taunt forces him to confront the possibility that his memories may not be entirely fabricated.

The series’ first episode delivers a pivotal revelation: Tommy Maximoff exists outside Wanda’s Hex, living in the real world as Thomas Shatford, a young grifter in London. This discovery upends Vision’s carefully constructed life and draws the attention of a bounty hunter named Paladin, who tracks him down using classified S.W.O.R.D. files. The episode ends with Paladin’s failed attempt to capture Vision, setting up a direct confrontation in future installments.

The connection to *Agatha All Along* explains how Billy and Tommy survived the destruction of Westview, with Billy’s consciousness transferring into William Kaplan’s body and Tommy’s into a drowning victim’s. *VisionQuest* picks up years later, showing Thomas Shatford’s fragmented identity as he navigates life with Tommy’s memories but no clear sense of self. His disorientation reflects the trauma of his unnatural existence.

The series’ narrative hinges on the consequences of Billy’s actions in *Agatha All Along*, where he places Tommy’s soul into a dying boy’s body to save him. *VisionQuest* explores the fallout of that decision, as Thomas grapples with the instability of his borrowed life and the lingering presence of Wanda and Vision in his fractured psyche. The show’s exploration of identity and memory makes it a critical bridge between WandaVision and future MCU stories.
