European solar, BESS marketplace expands to Romania
Solmeria’s renewable energy marketplace has expanded to Romania, listing agrivoltaic solar and BESS projects, including a 55 MWp hybrid park with 193 MWh storage, to accelerate transactions and reduce costs.
Solmeria, a European renewable energy marketplace, has expanded its operations to include Romania, adding solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) to its platform. The marketplace, which covers ground-mounted PV, agrivoltaics, commercial and industrial solar, and BESS projects at all development stages, initially launched in France with 25 projects in July. It now features its first two listings in Romania, both agrivoltaic installations with four-hour storage systems in Cluj county, northwestern Romania.
The two Romanian listings have a combined capacity of 6.2 MW of solar and a total BESS capacity of 6 MW/24 MWh. Additionally, a ready-to-build hybrid park of 55 MWp with 193 MWh of storage has been added to the platform. Maxime Courtaigne, CEO of Solmeria, noted that the first listings in Romania have already attracted around ten expressions of interest from potential buyers.
The marketplace was created to address developer requests, aiming to enhance liquidity for listed projects, expedite transactions, and lower intermediation costs. Commission is only charged upon successful sale completion and is significantly lower than traditional merger and acquisitions agency fees, according to prior reports. Courtaigne also highlighted that 18 of the 25 French projects listed are now in sale discussions.
Solmeria expanded into the Italian market in September, with over 300 registered acquirers to date, primarily French and Italian, and new buyers joining monthly. Courtaigne emphasized the platform’s success in France, where even a 1 MWp project drew 35 expressions of interest, suggesting a similar trajectory for Romania as more projects are listed.
