Razer and National University Of Singapore Establish Joint AI Research Lab to Advance Gaming Intelligence
Razer and NUS Computing launched a joint AI research lab to develop gaming-focused AI innovations, including digital humans and wearable AI headsets, with a new research domain called GANI.

Razer and the National University of Singapore’s School of Computing announced the Razer-NUS Joint AI Research Lab, a collaboration aimed at advancing AI technologies specifically for gaming environments. The lab will focus on foundational research to enhance hardware, software, and services, including projects like Razer AVA, a digital human companion, and Project Motoko, a wearable AI headset. The initiative reflects Razer’s broader strategy to invest in AI-driven gaming experiences amid a projected US$66.8 billion global AI gaming market by 2035. The partnership combines academic expertise with industry application to accelerate innovation.
The lab introduces Gaming Artificial Narrow Intelligence (GANI), a new research domain designed to develop AI models tailored for interactive digital environments. GANI aims to create systems that adapt in real time to player behavior, such as AI teammates that adjust tactics or dynamically modify game difficulty. These capabilities will also support Razer’s existing AI projects, including Razer AVA and Project Motoko, by providing a stronger foundation for natural interactions and ambient responsiveness. The research is expected to enhance both player engagement and fairness in gaming.
Razer’s Chief Strategy Officer, Li-Meng Lee, emphasized the demanding requirements of gaming AI, which must respond instantly, adapt to context, and personalize experiences. The collaboration with NUS is positioned to drive breakthroughs not only in gaming but also in broader applications like education and simulation. The lab will operate on an iterative research-to-translation model, testing innovations in simulated and live gameplay environments before integrating successful outcomes into Razer’s systems.
Associate Professor Ooi Wei Tsang of NUS Computing, who directs the lab, highlighted the role of universities in advancing AI research and the importance of real-world testing grounds. The lab will be hosted on the NUS campus in Singapore, with NUS leading research and talent development while Razer focuses on industry validation and commercialization. The partnership aims to transform how players interact with games through next-generation intelligent systems.
