Airborne open world Atmosfar gets an early access release date and a trailer full of flying islands, cloud cruisers and sky taxis
Atmosfar, an open-world sky-island game, announced an early access launch on October 29 featuring airships, cloud bases, and co-op play.
Atmosfar, a game set on an alien planet where players uncover humanity’s final outpost, has revealed an early access release date of October 29. The announcement follows a string of sky-island titles, including Bossa’s Worlds Adrift and Lost Skies, which did not achieve sustained popularity. The trailer showcases the game’s central mechanics, centered on two types of airships: the Wasp, a modular hovercraft available in three variants, and the Cloud Cruiser, a large mobile base with landing pads, a hangar, and a lounge for up to three co-op players.
The Wasp airships serve distinct roles, such as the Utility Wasp for deployable camps, the Cargo Wasp for heavy lifting, and the Striker Wasp for combat. The Cloud Cruiser functions as a mobile hub, allowing players to transport Wasps and collaborate with others. The game’s islands feature rounded terrain and layered cloudscapes, creating a visually cohesive sky environment that the developer describes as their favorite-looking sky-island game.
Early access will include two regions at launch, with a third and final region planned for later in the early access period. The game will remain in early access for at least nine months, though the developers may extend this period if player engagement meets expectations. Players are referred to as "Vagabonds," a term the developer acknowledges as a common but often criticized player designation.
Developed by Apog, the studio behind the tycoon game Airport CEO, Atmosfar blends management and exploration elements. The early access roadmap includes additional building options for Cloud Cruisers and a fourth Wasp variant, expanding the game’s customization and gameplay depth as development progresses.
