Escape a roundabout as a stoned tuk-tuk driver in Zero Parades' free Director’s Cut update, which will add about 40,000 new words to the RPG next month
Zero Parades will receive a free Director’s Cut update on October 1, adding 40,000 new words, new scenes, and behind-the-scenes features to the RPG ahead of its console release.
Zero Parades: For Dead Spies, the follow-up to Disco Elysium, is receiving a free Director’s Cut update that will introduce approximately 40,000 new words of narrative content. The update, arriving on PC on October 1, includes expanded dialogue options, new scenes, and additional character interactions. ZA/UM described the additions as opportunities to deepen relationships with allies and explore the protagonist’s psyche further. The studio emphasized that the update aims to enhance the game’s existing strengths without overshadowing its original design.
A standout feature of the update is a new scene set on the Quisach Roundabout, where the protagonist Hershel Wilk and a friend navigate a hijacked tuk-tuk while intoxicated. The sequence tasks players with exiting the roundabout correctly or risking dire consequences. ZA/UM framed the encounter as a darkly humorous challenge reflective of the game’s tone. The update also completes the game’s English voice-over work, with re-recorded sections improving consistency and audio quality across key moments.
Players will gain access to a new Backstage Mode, which allows exploration of earlier iterations of selected levels. The mode includes cut content and developer commentary narrated by art director Kaspar Tamsalu, offering insight into the game’s development process. Additional features include new clothing options, updated character portraits, and a photosensitivity mode to improve accessibility. The update is designed to provide both narrative depth and behind-the-scenes context for fans.
The announcement follows ZA/UM’s earlier layoffs, with up to 32 staff members affected due to the commercial performance of Zero Parades. The studio cited financial constraints as the reason for downsizing. Despite this, the Director’s Cut update proceeds as planned, adding substantial new content to the game. Players can expect a blend of narrative expansion, technical improvements, and developmental transparency with the release.
