I perished in the flesh pipes of Darktide's Depths of the Damned update, and you will too
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s Depths of the Damned update introduces a sprawling new mission set in Tertium’s water treatment facility, featuring hazardous environments and challenging combat.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide’s latest Depths of the Damned update delivers a substantial new mission called Spillway, set in Tertium’s water treatment facility. Unlike typical Darktide excursions, this mission plunges players into a grotesque, unexplored environment where fetid green liquid and daemonic growths dominate the landscape. The facility’s former gangster ownership left behind cages and long sightlines, which current residents exploit to ambush players with lasgun fire and melee charges.
The Spillway mission retains Darktide’s conventional structure of wave-based combat and traversal segments, but expands it into a full-length challenge. Players navigate maze-like pipes and encounter smaller twists, such as memory-puzzle elements where gang graffiti marks safe paths. A traitor Captain ambushes players mid-mission, a foe typically reserved for final boss encounters, adding unpredictability to the experience.
The mission’s final boss introduces a multi-phase, area-of-effect assaulting enemy, described as one of Darktide’s most substantial adversaries. The boss advances through phases, cackles during invulnerable periods, and delivers ruinous attacks, providing a burst of freshness amid the facility’s filth. Players must adapt to the boss’s relentless assaults while managing the mission’s hazardous environment.
The update also introduces two new weapons: the Thugshot, a breachloader capable of penetrating crowds, and the Cruncher, a sledgehammer that sends lesser enemies flying off ledges. Both weapons deal heavy damage but require careful timing, reinforcing Darktide’s emphasis on rhythmic combat. Despite the mission’s challenges, the update offers a compelling experience for players willing to endure its grueling demands.
