First-person RPG Queen's Domain pitches you against an island of gorgeous freaks with naught but a flying sword and infinite throwing daggers
Queen's Domain, a first-person fantasy RPG, launches 30 October featuring a flying sword, infinite throwing weapons, and a labyrinthine island setting with over 100 foes.
Queen's Domain, a first-person fantasy RPG, draws comparisons to Ico and Final Fantasy’s Ivalice era with its Mayan-inspired architecture and island setting. The game’s environment features shorelines reminiscent of Halo’s Silent Cartographer, alongside skeletal abominations, laser trees, and fishpeople. Players assume the role of a missing noble’s son shipwrecked on the island, tasked with uncovering its mysteries. The narrative centers on a sleeping evil Queen and the disappearance of the protagonist’s father, setting the stage for exploration and combat.
Combat mechanics include a holy sword enabling blink-jumping, an unlimited supply of throwable weapons with cooldowns, a stamina system, and leveling opportunities. Battles emphasize aggressive forward movement followed by tactical retreats to avoid damage. The game’s retro aesthetic, enhanced by pixelation, reinforces its rustic and decayed atmosphere. The developers highlight the setting’s labyrinthine design, evoking influences from Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy XII.
The game promises over 50 melee weapons to discover, equip, and upgrade, alongside more than 20 types of secondary throwing weapons for varied combat strategies. Players will face over 100 enemies, mini-bosses, and bosses, with the developers estimating dozens of hours of exploration and adventure. A demo is available on Steam ahead of the full release.
The announcement includes a release date of 30 October, with Freshly Baked Games and Future Friends Games as the developers and publishers respectively. The trailer and demo aim to showcase the game’s unique blend of exploration, combat, and atmospheric storytelling.
