Valve roll out Steam Achievement Sets in beta, splitting up games’ perpetually growing trophy masses into DLC and season buckets
Valve introduces Steam Achievement Sets in beta to organize growing game trophies into DLC and seasonal buckets, improving progress tracking and clarity for completionists.
Steam’s new Achievement Sets feature, currently in beta, allows developers to group achievements into distinct sets such as base game, DLC, or seasonal content. This addresses the issue of ever-expanding trophy lists that can overwhelm players trying to track their completion progress. Valve states the feature aims to make achievements added through updates easier to discover and less likely to disrupt existing completion statuses.
Developers can create multiple sets, such as separating single-player from multiplayer achievements or isolating DLC trophies from the base game. Seasonal content can also be grouped into temporary sets that only appear during active events, preventing players from chasing unobtainable trophies. The feature includes progress tracking bars for each set, offering a clearer overview of what remains to be earned.
Valve is also testing a redesigned achievements page that consolidates progress tracking, set details, and global stats into a single view. The updated page includes search filters for specific sets or locked achievements, and it allows players to compare their totals with up to three friends. This streamlines the process of monitoring and sharing completion progress.
To access the new Achievement Sets and the overhauled achievements page, users must opt into the Steam Client Beta. Instructions for joining the beta are available on Valve’s announcement page. The changes reflect Valve’s ongoing efforts to improve the Steam platform for both players and developers.
