[Galaxy Unpacked July 2026] Inside the Design Behind the Latest Galaxy Z Series and Galaxy Watch

Samsung introduced five new Galaxy devices on July 22, 2026, including three foldables and two smartwatches, all designed under a unified philosophy prioritizing comfort and natural user experience. Hubert Lee, Samsung’s EVP and Head of Design, explained that the lineup reflects a shift toward slimmer, lighter designs that feel intuitive in daily use. The approach combines performance with ergonomics, aiming to reduce friction in how users interact with technology throughout their routines.

The Galaxy Z series expands with three models tailored to different needs: the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra for productivity, the Galaxy Z Fold8 for balance, and the Galaxy Z Flip8 for portability. Each device incorporates the ‘Emotive Slim’ concept, which reduces thickness while enhancing visual slenderness through curved frames and minimized flat profiles. Color choices—such as Violet Shadow, Lavender, and Pink—align with the intended user lifestyles, blending aesthetics with functionality.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 focus on refined wearability, preserving the cushion design that defines the series while improving comfort and control. The Ultra2 features a seamless integration of screen, bezel, and body for a cleaner look, while button spacing and tactile feedback were optimized for precision without visual reliance. Bands were made lighter and more breathable using a new air pocket structure, with designs validated through over 100 million real-user wrist data points and 10,000 simulations.

Samsung’s design team emphasized that human-centered values drive innovation in an AI-driven era, arguing that technology should be felt as much as seen. The new devices reflect this belief by prioritizing intuitive interactions and adaptability to diverse user needs, from foldables that fit naturally in hand to smartwatches that balance presence and softness on the wrist.
