Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z series reflects seven generations of user insights, with Executive Vice President Sunghoon Moon detailing how system-level engineering innovations shaped the eighth-generation devices. The lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Flip8, introduced on July 22, 2026. Samsung emphasized a user-first approach, focusing on making foldables more capable and intuitive for daily use through advances in display technology, hinge engineering, and materials science.

The engineering behind the new Galaxy Z series prioritized three key areas: larger, more immersive displays; thinner and lighter devices without sacrificing durability; and high performance while maintaining the foldable form factor’s advantages. Samsung addressed these challenges by treating each device as an interconnected system, redesigning components like the display, hinge, battery, and thermal system together rather than in isolation.

Flex Titanium technology was a central innovation, combining a titanium plate and a precision-engineered lattice structure to support the ultra-thin OLED display while reducing crease visibility. The titanium-alloy film beneath the display, just tens of micrometers thick, provided strength and flexibility for repeated folding. This technology reduced the display module thickness by 10%, creating space for a larger battery, improved thermal management, and enhanced camera systems.

Samsung also introduced a silicon-carbon anode to improve battery energy density while maintaining stability under high-voltage conditions. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features a 5,000 mAh battery with dual-path charging architecture supporting 45 W fast charging, reaching 67% charge in 30 minutes. Durability was validated through over 100 reliability tests, including drops, repeated folding, and exposure to moisture and debris, ensuring the devices meet real-world usage demands.
