Samsung announced the global launch of five new devices on August 7, including the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra with an 8-inch display, the lighter Z Fold8, and the Z Flip8 with an enhanced cover screen.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Samsung Electronics officially introduced five new devices on August 6, marking the expansion of its Galaxy Z series and Galaxy Watch lineup to 106 markets. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra features an 8-inch display and a 200 MP HDR camera, while the Z Fold8 incorporates Flex Titanium for reduced weight. The Z Flip8 introduces a reimagined FlexWindow for cover screen applications, offering users new interaction options.
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9 were also unveiled, targeting outdoor enthusiasts and health-focused users respectively. The Watch Ultra2 includes a 47 mm size, 800 mAh battery, and outdoor sports tracking modes, while the Watch9 offers 40 mm and 44 mm sizes with continuous health monitoring features such as Vitals and Heart Health Score.
Sales began on August 7 through carriers, retailers, Samsung.com, and Samsung Experience Stores, with pre-orders increasing by over 30% compared to the previous generation. Graphite and Pink were the most popular colors for the Z series, while exclusive colors like Green Shadow and Pistachio led pre-orders among younger customers on Samsung.com.
The new devices are built on seven generations of foldable innovation and are designed to integrate with Samsung’s AI ecosystem. The Galaxy Z series offers three distinct user experiences, while the Galaxy Watch devices provide continuous health tracking with improved performance, comfort, and battery life, expanding connected companion experiences across devices.
