Samsung unveiled three new foldable smartphones at Galaxy Unpacked in July: the Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Z Fold8, and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra. The devices feature thinner and lighter designs compared to their predecessors, with the Z Fold8 weighing just 201 grams and the Z Flip8 nearly 0.5 mm thinner and 8 grams lighter than the previous model. The new lineup emphasizes adaptive experiences for productivity, creativity, and entertainment.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra includes a 200 MP Wide camera and a 50 MP Ultra Wide camera, offering high-resolution detail and improved brightness. The Z Flip8 introduces FlexCam for hands-free use and Super Steady with a Horizontal Lock option for smoother video footage. The Z Fold8’s dual 50 MP cameras provide consistent high-resolution detail across wide and ultra-wide perspectives.
Battery life has been enhanced, particularly in the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which features a 5,000 mAh battery supporting up to 27 hours of video playback and Super-Fast charging. The Z Flip8 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, delivering 43% faster AI performance and 41% faster processing compared to the Z Flip7.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a shorter, wider design optimized for content consumption, with a 10:16 cover screen for social media and a 4:3 main screen for movies and e-books. The Z Fold8 Ultra offers a slim design with a long-lasting battery, while the Z Flip8 provides a pocketable form factor for creative expression. Samsung also updated Smart Switch to allow iOS users to transfer data wirelessly via QR code.
