Her work focuses on expanding access to technology and education, particularly for students in underserved communities. Makgato’s journey began in a South African township, where limited exposure to technology initially shaped her early aspirations. A transformative encounter with Samsung’s Solar Powered Internet School in 2012 redirected her path toward advocacy and leadership in corporate social responsibility.
Since joining Samsung, Makgato has led initiatives designed to replicate the opportunities she once received. Her efforts include overseeing programs that provide students with tools and resources to explore digital innovation. These initiatives aim not only to familiarize students with technology but also to inspire them to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s technological and economic development. Her leadership reflects a commitment to bridging gaps in digital literacy and fostering long-term growth.
One of the flagship programs under her guidance is Solve for Tomorrow, an initiative that challenges young students to develop solutions to local problems using technology. The program encourages critical thinking and hands-on learning, equipping participants with skills applicable beyond the classroom. Makgato emphasizes the importance of nurturing creativity and problem-solving abilities in Africa’s youth as a pathway to sustainable progress.
Makgato’s dedication extends beyond program management to active engagement with students and communities. Through public speaking and participation in CSR events, she highlights the transformative potential of technology in education.
