Long-range financial planning at Snowflake required forecasting across 40 entities, 100 cost centers, and hundreds of spend categories, making the process complex and difficult to scale. Different user roles—from individual contributors to executives—access tailored views of the planning data, enabling faster scenario comparisons and strategic alignment.

The shift to Snowplan improved governance and scalability by leveraging Snowflake’s role-based permissions and row-level controls. The model now supports a 10-year forecast with extensive data categories, a workload Snowflake is designed to handle efficiently. Actuals flow automatically into the model, reducing reconciliation efforts and ensuring data consistency. The platform’s architecture also allows for reuse across other financial planning needs, including workforce planning, treasury forecasting, and M&A scenarios, turning Snowplan into a broader finance planning solution.

Snowflake further enhanced Snowplan with Snowflake CoCo, adding conversational capabilities to simplify assumption adjustments and scenario analysis. While the initial rebuild improved planning efficiency, CoCo streamlined user interaction by guiding analysts on where to make changes and interpreting downstream impacts. The result is a more intuitive, collaborative, and data-driven approach to long-range financial planning that aligns finance teams with broader business strategy.
