Good Carbon Co. installed a 3.75-MWh indoor lithium-ion battery system from Viridi at Peace Bridge Place, a 105-unit affordable housing building in Buffalo, New York. The project is among the largest indoor battery systems in an occupied U.S. residential building, designed to deliver extended backup power during outages and reduce grid demand during peak periods.

The battery system is part of a broader clean energy strategy at Peace Bridge Place, which includes geothermal heating and cooling, domestic hot water upgrades, and high-efficiency building envelope improvements. Viridi’s RPSLinkIN system integrates with EnergyHub’s Edge DERMS to respond to National Grid signals during peak demand, enabling flexible energy management for the property.

Good Carbon Co. selected the system to lower operating costs, avoid higher-cost energy periods, and participate in demand response programs, strengthening the property’s economic resilience. NYSERDA is supporting the project through its Future Grid Challenge, while National Grid is piloting grid-responsive technologies at the site.

The 3.75-MWh system is distributed across seven battery rooms and managed by Viridi’s proprietary Energy Management System, which optimizes electricity use and grid responsiveness. Viridi’s Buffalo facility can produce approximately 400 MWh of battery systems annually, with capacity to expand as demand increases.
