NeoVolta Power, a joint venture between NeoVolta and PotisEdge, inaugurated a 4-GWh lithium battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing site in Pendergrass, Georgia, in September. The facility is positioned to support FEOC-compliant and domestic content-eligible solutions for U.S. project developers, addressing supply chain and compliance challenges in the energy storage sector. The plant operates as a 210,000-square-foot facility along the I-85 corridor, with plans to expand to 8 GWh through a second production line as demand increases.

NeoVolta CEO Ardes Johnson outlined the company’s evolution from a residential battery storage provider founded in 2018 to a U.S.-based energy storage manufacturing platform. The shift followed market contractions in residential incentives, prompting the company to broaden its focus to commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications. Johnson emphasized the company’s proprietary battery management system (BMS), energy management system (EMS), and intelligent cell contact system (iCCS) as key differentiators in its manufacturing process.

The Pendergrass facility integrates proprietary hardware and software to produce grid-ready battery packs and containers, including cell-level safety monitoring and active management. NeoVolta’s approach contrasts with industry norms by embedding power electronics and controls directly into its DC blocks, enabling participation in grid services such as frequency regulation and arbitrage. The company’s product roadmap includes expanding this integration into utility-scale platforms, building on its existing C&I solutions like the NVGAIN system.

NeoVolta faces operational and policy challenges, including compliance with FEOC rules and reliance on imported cells due to an immature domestic supply chain. The company is navigating these hurdles while scaling production, securing financing, and engaging with policymakers to support domestic manufacturing. Johnson highlighted the bipartisan support for reducing dependence on foreign battery supply chains, reinforcing the long-term viability of U.S.-based energy storage manufacturing.
