Spotify’s New In-Car App Is Available for Audi Vehicles Starting Today
Spotify launches a native in-car app for Audi vehicles, enabling direct integration with infotainment systems for hands-free listening and expanded passenger features.
Spotify has introduced a new native in-car application designed to run directly on Audi’s infotainment systems, eliminating the need for phone projection or Bluetooth pairing. The app integrates Spotify’s interface with the vehicle’s screens, sound system, and voice controls, allowing drivers to sign in once and resume playback automatically when starting the car. This approach prioritizes hands-free functionality, with simplified navigation and restricted video or lyrics display while the vehicle is in motion to maintain driver focus.
When parked, including during electric vehicle charging, the app unlocks full-screen video podcasts, music videos, and real-time lyrics on the main display. Drivers can use Audi’s native voice command system, “Hey Audi,” or interact directly with Spotify’s DJ feature to control playback without physical interaction. Front passengers gain access to secondary displays for browsing, viewing lyrics, or watching videos without distracting the driver, alongside the ability to scan a QR code to join an in-car Spotify Jam and contribute to a shared queue.
Jonathan Tarlton, Spotify’s Automotive Business Development Lead, highlighted the app’s design to enhance the driving experience by providing instant, hands-free access and expanded entertainment options for passengers. The integration aims to create a more natural and engaging listening environment tailored to different driving scenarios, from daily commutes to longer road trips.
The app is available starting October 21 via the Audi Application Store for both Free and Premium Spotify listeners in select Audi models, including the A6 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A5, Q5, and A6. Additional Audi models such as the Q7 and Q9 will receive the app at their market launch, with availability varying by vehicle and region. Spotify plans to expand this native in-car experience to more global automotive partners over the coming year.
