Spotify has launched Playlist Notes, a feature enabling playlist creators—both Spotify’s editorial team and users—to add written explanations alongside tracks. Editors will share insights on culturally significant songs in major playlists such as *Today’s Top Hits* and *RapCaviar*, while listeners can annotate their own playlists to highlight personal connections or recommendations. The feature is currently available to users aged 16 and older in select markets including the U.S., U.K., and Australia.
Editor Profiles accompany Playlist Notes, offering a glimpse into the curators behind the playlists by showcasing their top tracks, albums, and contributions. Users can access these profiles by tapping an editor’s name within a playlist or note. The feature is designed to deepen engagement by revealing the reasoning behind song selections, whether for thematic coherence or cultural relevance. Notes from editors are visible in the Now Playing view, even when listening outside the original playlist.
Users can also add their own notes to tracks, podcast episodes, or audiobooks in their playlists, sharing memories or justifications for their choices. These annotations are visible to anyone with access to the playlist and are linked to the user’s profile. The feature is rolling out on iOS and Android across over 100 markets, with availability varying between editor-curated and user-curated playlists.
Playlist Notes operates under Spotify’s Platform Rules and Terms of Use, ensuring content adheres to community guidelines. The update aims to make playlists more interactive and personal, encouraging users to explore the stories behind the music. To access the feature, users should update their Spotify app as the rollout continues globally.
