Sunrun, the largest U.S. provider of home battery storage and solar systems, was named to the Fortune 1000 list for 2026, its first appearance on the annual ranking of the country’s top revenue-generating companies. The company is the sole home battery storage and solar installer included in the 2026 list. The recognition follows a 45% increase in total revenue to $2.96 billion in 2025, alongside record cash generation of $377 million and the highest subscriber values in the company’s history. Sunrun’s CEO Mary Powell attributed the milestone to the company’s subscription-based model and its more than 1.1 million customers.

Sunrun introduced the energy-as-a-subscription model in 2007, allowing customers to install solar systems without upfront costs. The company expanded its offerings to include battery storage, becoming the largest operator of distributed power plants in the U.S. These systems enable customers to store energy and earn compensation by participating in grid-supporting programs that return power to the grid during peak demand. Sunrun currently runs 18 such programs across multiple states, including Texas, California, and New York.

In 2025, Sunrun’s distributed power plants were dispatched daily, delivering over 1,300 dispatches and 18 gigawatt-hours of energy to the grid. The company earns recurring revenue from utilities and grid operators for managing these programs. First-quarter revenue in 2026 reached $722 million, a 43% increase from the same period in 2025. Sunrun also reported a record storage attachment rate of 73%, with total installations totaling approximately 4.3 gigawatt-hours of networked storage capacity.

The Fortune 1000 is an annual list published by Fortune magazine ranking the 1,000 largest U.S. companies by revenue for their most recent fiscal year. Sunrun, listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker RUN, continues to expand its operations, supporting grid reliability and offering customers greater energy independence and cost savings through its subscription-based model.
