By deploying distributed energy resources, Sunrun enables families to gain energy independence while supporting grid reliability during peak demand, price spikes, and outages. The company operates the nation’s largest residential battery fleet, powering 18 distributed power plant programs that assist grid operators in managing demand and preventing blackouts.
TIME’s announcement emphasized Sunrun’s role in addressing global challenges through its business model, noting its contributions to energy affordability and grid resilience. The company’s vehicle-to-grid and neighborhood-level programs further expand its impact, offering flexible solutions to meet growing electricity needs driven by trends such as increased electrification and data center demand.
Since its founding in 2007, Sunrun reports $1.9 billion in customer energy savings, 9.2 million hours of backup power during outages, and avoided emissions equivalent to taking 69 gas-fired power plants offline for a year. Its solar projects in multifamily communities serve over 37,000 low-income households, delivering an estimated $21.8 million in annual savings while supporting broader energy equity and sustainability goals.
