Sunrun is the Number One Provider of Energy Independence for Americans, Expanding the Nation’s Largest Residential Distributed Power Plant
Sunrun installed nearly half of all U.S. residential battery storage capacity in 2025, expanding its networked storage to 4.0 gigawatt-hours and supporting grids with 18 gigawatt-hours of dispatched energy.

Sunrun, the largest U.S. provider of residential battery storage and solar systems, installed 1.5 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity in 2025, accounting for approximately 48% of the sector’s 3.1 gigawatt-hours of new additions, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. The company’s total installed storage and solar systems now exceed 237,000, delivering 4.0 gigawatt-hours of networked storage capacity—equivalent to 44% of all residential storage installed in the U.S. since the industry began. This expansion reinforces Sunrun’s position as the nation’s leading provider of distributed power plants.
In 2025, Sunrun’s battery network dispatched nearly 18 gigawatt-hours of energy to support grids across America, enough to power 15 million homes for one hour, with a peak output of 425 megawatts. These dispatches occurred during critical grid hours, helping prevent outages and reducing energy costs for ratepayers. The company’s storage attachment rate reached a record 71% in the fourth quarter of 2025, and Sunrun expects to have over 10 gigawatt-hours of dispatchable capacity online by the end of 2028.
Sunrun installed more energy storage capacity in California in 2025 than the next 40 top installers combined, according to the California Solar and Storage Association. The company also reported over 50% year-over-year growth in Texas, where it is expanding partnerships with NRG, Tesla, and Vistra to deploy storage-plus-solar systems and optimize rate plans. Texas is projected to surpass California as the nation’s largest energy storage market in 2026, according to SEIA.
Sunrun’s storage systems provided 3.8 million hours of backup power to customers during more than 650,000 outage events in 2025, offering seamless power during grid disruptions when paired with rooftop solar. The company’s no-upfront-cost subscription model continues to empower customers with energy independence, while its dispatchable power supports grid stability and reduces costs for all ratepayers.
