The Digital Veteran Card has surpassed 23,000 downloads since its October 2025 launch, providing veterans with a smartphone-based alternative to physical cards. The card allows users to prove their service status and access discounts at participating retailers, restaurants, and attractions. It also facilitates verification for services such as GP registration and health support tailored to veterans. Veterans Minister Calvin Bailey MP, a former RAF member, has endorsed the digital card, highlighting its convenience and utility in claiming entitlements.
Veterans must first apply for a physical Veteran Card, which, once processed and dispatched, enables them to download the digital version through the GOV.UK One Login app. The digital card is optional, allowing veterans to continue using their physical card if preferred. Discounts and acceptance policies vary by organisation, so veterans are advised to confirm eligibility before use.
The initiative coincides with Remembrance Sunday, aiming to honour veterans’ service year-round by simplifying access to recognition and support. Veterans Minister Bailey emphasised the card’s role in reducing barriers to entitlements, including specialised health services and retail discounts. He encouraged veterans to utilise either the physical or digital card to claim available benefits.
The Digital Veteran Card was launched in October 2025, with over 23,000 downloads recorded. Veterans UK office staff assist applicants throughout the process, and the digital card is designed to streamline proof of service while offering practical advantages such as portability and ease of access.
