Foreign Secretary statement on Iran, 12 October
The UK Foreign Secretary condemned Iran’s alleged threats and announced sanctions against two Iranian nationals for facilitating hostile activities on behalf of the regime.
The Foreign Secretary stated that Iran’s attempts to undermine UK and international security through criminal networks, proxy groups, and state-backed activity are unacceptable. The UK will not tolerate threats on British soil, prompting the summoning of Iran’s ambassador to reiterate this position. The government emphasized its firm stance against Iran’s actions and commitment to protecting national security.
Two Iranian nationals have been designated for their roles in facilitating or engaging in hostile activities intended to threaten, plan, or conduct attacks overseas. The measures target individuals directly linked to the Iranian regime’s malign operations, according to the Foreign Secretary’s statement.
Asset freezes have been imposed, preventing UK citizens or businesses from dealing with funds or economic resources owned or controlled by the designated individuals. The restrictions apply to all persons within UK territory and to UK persons globally, covering all financial dealings with the sanctioned individuals.
Director disqualification sanctions have also been introduced, making it an offence for designated individuals to act as directors or participate in the management of UK companies or foreign companies sufficiently connected to the UK. Violations of these sanctions carry legal consequences.
