Seven companies previously appearing unrelated were wound up by the High Court in Manchester on 22 September 2026 after a joint investigation by the Insolvency Service and Companies House uncovered evidence of shared conduct. The firms operated in trades including wholesale of fruits, vegetables, oil and gas, and property, with bases in Lancashire, London, Manchester, and Reading. Investigators found that the companies shared similar incorporation histories, name changes, and business descriptions, despite operating in different sectors.

The investigation revealed that accounts filed at Companies House contained false or misleading auditor information, with named audit firms denying involvement. Several companies lacked a genuine presence at their registered office addresses, and investigators could not confirm legitimate trading activity or identify the actual controllers of some firms.

The companies failed to cooperate with the investigation, preventing officials from verifying their activities or financial records. This obstruction contributed to the decision to wind them up in the public interest, as their actions risked undermining trust in the company register.

The Insolvency Service and Companies House worked together to expose the links between the companies and support their shutdown. Officials emphasized the importance of accurate filings to protect the integrity of the register and those who rely on it, warning that false information can cause real harm.
