Two more men arrested for illegal waste dumping at Kidlington site
Two men were arrested in Surrey as part of an Environment Agency investigation into illegal waste dumping at a Kidlington site, bringing total arrests to six since November 2025.
The Environment Agency announced the arrests of a 21-year-old from Ashford and a 43-year-old from Stanwell, both in Surrey, as part of an ongoing probe into illegal waste dumping at a Kidlington site. The investigation, supported by Surrey Police and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, aims to identify those responsible and deliver justice for the local community. Authorities described the dumping as abhorrent and emphasized swift removal of all illegal waste from the site while continuing the inquiry.
This brings the total number of arrests to six, following earlier detentions in February 2026, January 2026, and November 2025. The Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit is leading the effort to hold offenders accountable and gather new evidence. The individuals were released on conditional bail pending further investigation, as authorities pursue additional leads in the case.
The investigation began after officers responded to a report of waste tipping in Kidlington on 2 July 2025. A subsequent site visit in July showed no improvement, prompting the issuance of a cease-and-desist letter to prevent further dumping. Following continued criminal activity in October 2025, a court order was obtained to close the site on 23 October 2025, halting further illegal tipping.
Last month, the Environment Agency confirmed the site had been fully cleaned, with approximately 22,105 tonnes of commercial and household waste removed. Under the government’s crackdown on waste crime, authorities are using drones, increasing fines, and deploying more officers to deter illegal dumping. A new Waste Crime Crackdown Group, chaired by Environment Secretary Dame Angela Eagle, will coordinate efforts to dismantle criminal operations.
