AI Gateway adds Browserbase Search and Fetch tools

Vercel’s AI Gateway has added Browserbase Search and Fetch tools, allowing AI models to perform web searches and retrieve page contents directly. These tools join Browserbase’s existing AI SDK and Vercel Marketplace integrations within AI Gateway’s unified interface. Users can now access real-time information without switching providers, maintaining consistent tooling across model changes.

The integration supports any model capable of tool calling, expanding AI Gateway’s functionality beyond static data. Developers can activate search and fetch by passing the helpers in tools, with setup requiring an updated AI SDK version. Configuration is managed through a single API key, simplifying deployment and reducing integration overhead for teams.

Browserbase Search and Fetch are available starting with AI SDK 7.0.116, accessible via pnpm add ai@latest. Users must set the AI_GATEWAY_API_KEY environment variable to enable the tools.
