GPT-5.6 Sol is 50% off on AI Gateway for the next month
Vercel’s AI Gateway is offering a 50% discount on OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol model through September 18, applicable to all token types and regions when accessed via AI Gateway.
Vercel has announced a 50% discount on OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Sol model through its AI Gateway service until September 18. The reduction applies uniformly across all token types, service tiers, regions, and modes, including fast mode and long-context requests. The discount is exclusive to requests processed directly through AI Gateway and does not extend to Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) configurations, which remain billed at the user’s provider rate. The model ID remains unchanged, ensuring existing requests automatically benefit from the reduced pricing without requiring code modifications.
GPT-5.6 Sol supports text, image, and PDF inputs, with a long context window and a reasoning effort set to maximum for complex tasks. The model is accessible via AI Gateway’s OpenAI provider, where the discount is applied to all billed requests. Users can configure the model in coding agents by running the command vercel ai-gateway coding-agents setup and selecting openai/gpt-5.6-sol within the agent interface. This setup supports integration with tools such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, or Pi.
To utilize the discounted rate, users must generate an API key within the AI Gateway section of their Vercel dashboard. Alternatively, the model can be tested directly in a browser via the playground page before deployment. The discount does not apply to requests routed through BYOK, which continue to be billed according to the user’s existing provider agreements. The offer is limited to the specified period and does not alter the model’s core functionality or supported input types.
The announcement follows Vercel’s broader push to lower barriers to AI model access through its AI Gateway platform. By reducing costs for high-performance models like GPT-5.6 Sol, Vercel aims to facilitate broader experimentation and integration in development workflows. The discount applies retroactively to eligible requests processed during the promotional window, provided they meet the specified criteria.
