Introducing Vercel Drives: persistent storage for agents
Vercel introduces Vercel Drives, a persistent storage solution for agents that maintains file continuity across different execution environments in Vercel Sandbox.
Vercel has launched Vercel Drives, a persistent storage system designed to keep an agent’s files separate from its execution environment. This allows agents to resume work in new sandboxes or runtimes without transferring their workspace, ensuring continuity. Files stored on a drive persist across different environments, enabling agents to switch configurations while retaining access to their previous work. The system is now generally available for Vercel Sandbox.
Agents can mount the same drive in multiple sandboxes, allowing them to access shared files or datasets without rebuilding them. For example, one agent can prepare a dataset on a drive, while others mount read-only copies to analyze the data or generate reports. This reduces redundant work and improves efficiency across tasks. The drive’s contents remain unchanged, while agents save their results separately.
Vercel Drives supports forking, enabling agents to create independent copies of a drive to explore different approaches. Each fork starts with the original drive’s contents and provides a writable workspace for experimentation. Forks operate in parallel without affecting the original drive or one another, allowing agents to test multiple transformations simultaneously.
Vercel Drives is available on all plans for Vercel Sandbox, with default storage of 1 TiB (or 1 GiB on Hobby plans) and options to expand up to 16 TiB. Users can configure drives, take snapshots, and review limits in the documentation. The changelog outlines updates made at general availability.
