Token Pass credit now applies automatically across AI Gateway
Vercel’s Token Pass credit now applies automatically to AI Gateway model usage without a dedicated key, with fallback to team credits when exhausted.
Vercel has updated its Token Pass credit system so that usage through AI Gateway is automatically covered, regardless of authentication method. This includes requests made with an API key, OIDC token, or fx login, eliminating the need for a separate Token Pass API key. Users can still create a dedicated Token Pass key for scoped access to featured models and providers via the dashboard or CLI.
When Token Pass credits are depleted for the billing period, requests authenticated with a standard key or OIDC token will fall back to the team’s AI Gateway credits. Token Pass keys, however, will be blocked until the next billing cycle resets the credit. This ensures continuity of service while maintaining clear credit management boundaries.
Requests processed through the Token Pass provider continue to operate under Zero Data Retention (ZDR) standards. Fallback requests, which use team credits, adhere to the team’s configured settings. If the team has enabled ZDR, fallback requests will only route to providers that also support ZDR, maintaining compliance with data handling policies.
The update is available immediately for Token Pass subscribers on Pro teams. Users who previously created a Token Pass key during setup must switch to a standard API key or OIDC token to access the fallback credit system. Additional details are provided in the Token Pass documentation.
