Tailbreak, an on-rails shooter featuring dinosaurs and zombies, launches today on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Play Anywhere, and PC for $24.99. The game includes story mode, co-op, and a randomized warzone mode with unlockable upgrades.
The useful question is what changes for users, developers or buyers, and whether the announcement stays industry context or becomes something people can actually use.
Tailbreak, a spin-off of the studio’s earlier title Dinobreak, launches today for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Play Anywhere, and PC at a price of $24.99. The game shifts focus from zombies to dinosaurs, offering an on-rails shooter experience with a fully voice-acted story mode. Players control Alex and Rin, survivors navigating a city overrun by dinosaurs, with options for solo or local two-player co-op gameplay.
The core gameplay loop involves shooting environmental objects to uncover hidden weapons and items, while managing a limited inventory. Players must balance offensive and defensive tools, such as healing items and screen-clearing grenades. A red dino egg mechanic allows players to preserve combo chains for higher scores, which unlock new weapons and upgrades as they progress.
A secondary mode, Mutation Matrix, introduces a semi-procedurally generated warzone where enemies, weapons, and items are randomized. Higher scores unlock starting weapons, abilities, and sidearm upgrades, such as a level three shotgun at 48,000 points. Players can also mix enemy types, including zombies and mutated monsters, to remix their experience and aim for higher scores.
Tailbreak leverages Unreal Engine 5.7.1, offering advanced visuals and ray tracing on Xbox Series X|S, with additional graphical options on PC. The game supports Xbox Play Anywhere and is playable on the Xbox ROG Ally X handheld. The title is available now for $24.99, with co-op play encouraged across all modes.
