How The Challenge Shrine Will Change How you Play Halls of Torment
Halls of Torment’s second DLC, The Lost Archives, introduces new mechanics, heroes, and a free update with adjustable boss encounters and weekly challenges.
The Lost Archives, the second downloadable content pack for Halls of Torment, launches alongside a free update for all players on Xbox. The expansion shifts the setting from the Boglands to The Lost Archives, where cultists and forgotten lore await. The game blends horde survival with roguelite elements, featuring pre-rendered graphics and dark dungeons where players face waves of monsters. Survivors can choose between manual control or automatic attacks, with progression tied to permanent upgrades unlocked between runs.
The expansion adds a new hall and two playable heroes: the Inquisitor and the Blood Apostle. The Inquisitor emphasizes defense and retribution, introducing mechanics like Judgement and Execution to stack damage on enemies. The Blood Apostle revives the Sacrifice mechanic, trading health for power and enhancing Affliction effects. Both heroes bring new abilities, equipment sets, and synergies to existing systems.
A free update introduces the Shrine of Torment, allowing players to set custom kill goals for boss encounters in every hall. This feature supports quicker runs and pairs with artifacts that increase enemy spawns. The Weekly Challenge, available to all players, rotates through base halls with fixed objectives and rewards Torment Shards for participation.
The update also adds the Scriptor, a record-keeping system that tracks player achievements and accumulated stats since launch. This feature highlights peak performance and long-term progression for competitive players.
