Asobo Studio has announced *Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy*, a new entry in the franchise that abandons the stealth-focused gameplay of its predecessors in favor of an action-adventure format. The decision follows the conclusion of *A Plague Tale: Requiem*, which the studio described as a definitive ending for the series. Co-founder David Dedeine explained that the team sought to explore new storytelling and gameplay directions while retaining the character of Sophia, whose more assertive personality aligned with the shift toward combat mechanics.
The game introduces a new universe inspired by the Minoan world, requiring the team to design an entirely original setting rather than relying on real-world locations. Lead writer Carol Ann Bañuls noted the challenge of extending the plague lore while introducing a distinct form of the macula, the plague itself. Level designer Vincent Trinel highlighted technical adjustments, such as reversing the climbing mechanics from previous entries, where players now have greater freedom to jump and scale heights up to 10 meters using a grappling hook.
Voice actress Anna Demetriou emphasized that *Resonance* maintains the thematic weight of the franchise, exploring grief and other heavy topics despite its action-oriented gameplay. Character artist Marco Puricelli confirmed that the game retains the series’ signature visual identity, including its painterly vistas, thick fog, and volumetric lighting, while introducing new artistic elements to differentiate it from prior installments.
The game is scheduled for release on August 27 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass. Players can access it on both console and PC at no additional cost through Xbox Play Anywhere.
