Key points
·
Physical AI is bringing advanced intelligence into the machines operating in the real world — from robots to next-generation vehicles.
·
AI-defined vehicles are among the most advanced examples, integrating AI throughout the driving experience while significantly increasing software complexity.
·
Addressing these software challenges was never intended to be the work of a single company.
·
As automotive software continues to evolve, SOAFEE is entering its next chapter as a Working Group within CoreCollective, the recently launched open collaboration initiative for the Arm software ecosystem.

SOAFEE (Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge) was established in 2021 as an open industry initiative to address the growing software complexity in AI-defined vehicles and other embedded systems. The project united automakers, silicon providers, cloud companies, and open-source communities to develop common software architectures for automotive and related fields. Its goal was to create practical, cloud-native solutions through member-led Blueprints, with over 150 organizations now participating.

The initiative is now entering a new phase as a Working Group within CoreCollective, Arm’s open collaboration platform for the software ecosystem. CoreCollective provides shared governance, infrastructure, and technical resources for projects spanning cloud, edge, and physical AI, including automotive and robotics. SOAFEE will retain its existing governance structures, such as its Governing Body and Technical Steering Committee, while gaining representation on the CoreCollective Technical Advisory Committee.

Arm will continue as a key technical contributor and governing member of SOAFEE, with the company’s representatives taking leadership roles in the Working Group. The transition aims to strengthen collaboration across adjacent industries while preserving SOAFEE’s industry-led approach. Existing and new members can join CoreCollective’s open membership model, which is free for companies interested in accelerating development and deployment of Arm-based workloads.

The move reflects broader trends in AI-defined systems, where automotive serves as a leading example of physical AI integration. By joining CoreCollective, SOAFEE expands its community and reinforces its commitment to open, cloud-native software development for intelligent machines. The initiative remains focused on advancing practical solutions for embedded edge computing across diverse sectors.
