Jira Planner begins by prompting users to clarify scope, constraints, and success criteria for their goals, even if the initial idea is vague. It then analyzes multi-repository codebases and integrates context from Teamwork Graph to ensure plans reflect real architectural decisions and ownership structures. The tool generates editable Confluence Live Docs linked to Jira, allowing teams to work directly within existing workflows. This integration eliminates the need to transfer plans to separate documents, streamlining collaboration.

The platform enables real-time team collaboration by allowing engineers, product managers, and designers to co-edit plans, leave inline comments, and resolve trade-offs during the planning phase. Jira Planner flags ambiguities in specifications and suggests missing details to ensure plans are execution-ready. Once finalized, the tool breaks plans into Jira work items with dependencies, milestones, and acceptance criteria, providing clear handoff points for agent orchestration.

Jira Planner is designed for tech leads, senior engineers, engineering managers, and product managers working on multi-sprint features or architectural decisions requiring team alignment. It is available in Early Access for Jira Cloud customers with Rovo enabled, Teamwork Graph connected, and Confluence integrated. Atlassian is rolling out access in phases and seeking feedback to refine future capabilities.
