Autodesk’s three-part docuseries Built to Move has been awarded the Episodic Award at Tribeca X, the branded content division of the Tribeca Film Festival. The recognition highlights the series’ focus on human-centered storytelling rather than traditional brand promotion. The project follows US Paralympian Mike Schultz as he competes in his final major competition earlier this year in Cortina, Italy, while also documenting his broader contributions to adaptive sports technology through his company, BioDapt.

The series centers on Schultz’s journey from a 2008 snowmobile accident that led to the amputation of his left leg to becoming a pioneer in high-performance adaptive prosthetics. After designing his own competitive prosthetic leg, he founded BioDapt in 2010, which now equips approximately 90% of lower-limb athletes in Para Snowboard World Cup events. The docuseries was co-produced with TFA Group, a social impact agency specializing in disability advocacy and adaptive sports storytelling, alongside Range Sports.

Autodesk and BioDapt have extended their collaboration beyond the series, with a partnership announced earlier this year to develop next-generation prosthetics for para athletes preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. Using Autodesk Fusion, an AI-powered industry cloud for manufacturing, the teams redesigned key components of Schultz’s competitive prosthetic systems, ensuring durability and performance for his final competition, where no component failures were reported.

The project underscores a broader challenge in global health: over 2.5 billion people require assistive products, yet access remains limited in many regions. Autodesk’s work with BioDapt illustrates how design and manufacturing innovation can address such gaps, aligning with the company’s mission to empower creators across industries. Schultz’s story reflects the impact of adaptive technology, demonstrating how engineering and perseverance can transform lives in competitive sports and beyond.
