ItresE and EDEMSA completed Argentina’s first fully digital substation in Mendoza using Bentley’s OpenUtilities Substation and ProjectWise, reducing costs and fostering collaboration across teams.
ItresE, an energy consultancy and Bentley knowledge partner, collaborated with EDEMSA, Argentina’s major energy distributor, to deliver the country’s first 100% digital substation in Mendoza. The project aimed to modernize infrastructure by replacing traditional CAD tools with a digital workflow to cut costs, errors, and project timelines. EDEMSA sought a partner that understood local challenges and could ensure successful implementation, leading to the selection of ItresE, recognized for its expertise in Latin America’s electricity sector and Bentley’s certified training center in the region.
ItresE recommended Bentley’s OpenUtilities Substation and ProjectWise as the foundation for digitizing the Palmares substation. Alejandro Donnadieu, Partner Manager Americas at Bentley, noted that ItresE bridged the gap between advanced technology and Latin American realities, while EDEMSA’s trust in ItresE’s reputation facilitated the project’s approval. The partnership provided not only software but a full ecosystem including consulting, training, and support to prevent the tools from becoming underutilized.
The project’s most significant outcome, according to Mariano Schister, Director of ItresE, was the creation of a collaborative ecosystem where all stakeholders could work together efficiently. Bentley’s technology integrated EDEMSA’s subcontractors into a unified communication environment via ProjectWise, enabling faster delivery and fewer errors without requiring physical proximity. This integration maximized results by ensuring seamless coordination among teams.
Following the success at Palmares, EDEMSA now mandates the use of Bentley technology in new tenders, setting a new sector standard in Argentina. ItresE views the project as a replicable model for other companies in the region and plans to expand Bentley solution adoption at EDEMSA and introduce the model to additional markets. Schister emphasized the case as proof that the methodology works and can drive broader industry transformation.
