DTM: Difficult weekend at the Norisring.

BMW M Motorsport and Team Schubert Motorsport endured a challenging DTM weekend at the Norisring, with Marco Wittmann and Kelvin van der Linde struggling for pace throughout. Wittmann retired on Saturday after a rear-left tyre failure, while van der Linde was involved in a serious collision with Maximilian Paul’s Lamborghini, sustaining minor injuries and missing Sunday’s race. Both drivers faced setbacks despite Wittmann’s eventual tenth-place finish in the second race.

The incident on Saturday raised safety concerns after Paul lost control of his car, striking van der Linde’s BMW head-on. Van der Linde was discharged with bruises, while Paul suffered a fracture. BMW M Motorsport expressed relief over van der Linde’s condition and wished Paul a speedy recovery. The team’s performance in qualifying and races remained below expectations, with Wittmann starting 18th and finishing tenth in the second race.

In the BMW M2 Cup, Michael Schrey secured another double victory at the Norisring, repeating his success from the Lausitzring. Schrey, driving for Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport, won both races from pole position, with Mika König and Christopher Holst completing the podium. BMW works driver Jens Klingmann served as a coach, providing guidance to participants during the event.

BMW M Motorsport’s Björn Lellmann acknowledged the difficult weekend, citing a lack of performance and the heavy crash as major setbacks. Team Principal Torsten Schubert admitted disappointment, noting the team’s inability to challenge for positions. Wittmann and van der Linde both expressed frustration over the team’s struggles, though Wittmann praised the team’s pit stops and fan support.
