DTM: Victory and Podium! Marco Wittmann is back in the title race at the Nürburgring.

Marco Wittmann claimed victory in the third-to-last DTM race weekend at the Nürburgring, marking his first win of the season and the 20th of his career. He finished third on Saturday and won on Sunday, narrowing his title gap to 25 points in fifth place overall. Kelvin van der Linde struggled, retiring on Saturday due to technical issues and being involved in a start-line accident on Sunday. Wittmann’s success was attributed to strong qualifying positions, strategic pit stops, and the performance of the Schubert Motorsport team.

BMW M Motorsport head Andreas Roos praised Wittmann’s performance, stating the team needed strong results at the Nürburgring to re-enter the title fight. He acknowledged Wittmann’s skill and experience while expressing sympathy for van der Linde, whose bad luck this season has hindered his progress. The team aims to maintain their title challenge with four races remaining. Schubert Motorsport’s Torsten Schubert highlighted Wittmann’s victory as a significant comeback after two years without a win.

Wittmann described the weekend as a turning point after a difficult season, crediting his team’s strategy and pit stops for the victory. He noted strong competition from Thomas Preining and Tom Kalender in the final laps. The win places him back in contention for his third DTM title, while Schubert Motorsport remains third in the team standings with 201 points.

Kelvin van der Linde described his weekend as disastrous, with two retirements in consecutive races. Despite the setbacks, he expressed determination to salvage the season, aiming to score points in the remaining four races to support the team’s title ambitions. The incident on Sunday, where he was involved in a start-line accident, further compounded his challenges.
