From the trading floor to the cloud

BT International’s trading division, BT Trading & Command, has been selected by UBS to replace its global trader communications infrastructure with a cloud-native voice platform hosted on Microsoft Azure. The deployment is one of the first live implementations of its kind in a trading environment, addressing the sector’s stringent demands for resilience, performance, and regulatory compliance. The platform consolidates UBS’s trading systems from 20 separate platforms into a single global solution, reducing operational complexity and improving efficiency.

The new platform operates across 17 countries and supports over 2,400 traders, with scalability to accommodate further growth. It ensures compliance with local regulations while maintaining data sovereignty in each jurisdiction, providing secure, carrier-grade voice services with end-to-end encryption. Integrated recording and monitoring capabilities, alongside communication application server oversight middleware, align with regulatory requirements and support trader accountability.

By adopting a unified, cloud-native platform, UBS gains improved operational efficiency, reduced system complexity, and increased flexibility. The transition enables faster, better-informed decision-making for traders and establishes a foundation for future innovations, including AI-driven insights and automation. The solution is designed to meet UBS’s technical, regulatory, and operational needs while supporting global trading operations.

UBS managing director Brandon Benson highlighted BT’s ability to deliver a fully integrated solution that meets the bank’s requirements, ensuring a robust and future-proof communication platform for traders. Joris van Oers, BT International’s managing director for sales and commercial, described the deployment as a significant industry milestone, demonstrating cloud’s capability to meet the highest standards of security, compliance, and performance in trading environments.
