From the stage to the seaside: EE supercharges summer to give millions the edge with 5G+
EE expands its 5G+ network to over 25 major UK events and 30 towns ahead of summer, improving connectivity for attendees and businesses with faster speeds and fewer dropped calls.

EE announced it will activate its 5G+ network at more than 25 major UK events this summer, including BST Hyde Park, Isle of Wight Festival, and the Formula One British Grand Prix at Silverstone. The upgrades aim to reduce dropped calls and buffering while improving reliability for attendees and businesses, particularly in busy or remote locations. The expansion follows a 11% increase in 5G+ usage between March and April, with the technology now available to 75% of the UK population.
The rollout includes permanent 5G+ connectivity at regional events such as the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival and the Royal Welsh Show, enhancing mobile performance year-round. Additionally, EE has boosted signal strength in over 30 towns, including market and seaside destinations popular with tourists. Greg McCall, Chief Security and Networks Officer at BT, emphasized the importance of reliable connectivity during peak summer demand.
EE’s 5G+ network now covers over 44 million people in England, 2.1 million in Wales, 3.3 million in Scotland, and nearly one million in Northern Ireland. The operator’s nationwide advertising campaign highlights 5G+’s benefits for everyday tasks, such as booking event tickets or streaming content at festivals. Customers with compatible devices, SIMs, and plans can access the improved network performance.
As part of BT’s £40 billion investment in UK network infrastructure, EE has deployed ARC (Advanced RAN Coordination) in major cities like Liverpool, Sheffield, and Glasgow. The technology dynamically shares capacity between nearby mobile sites, boosting download speeds by up to 20% without additional masts. 5G+ customers will see the most significant improvements, though all EE 5G users benefit from the enhancements.
