Mid Wales business parks to benefit from fibre and skills upgrade

BT Group has signed a contract with Growing Mid Wales to deliver full-fibre broadband to business parks in Ceredigion and Powys under the Business Park Full Fibre to the Premises Project. The initiative will provide gigabit-capable connectivity to sites currently without access, enabling local businesses to enhance productivity and remain competitive. The project is part of the £110m Mid Wales Growth Deal, a joint investment by UK and Welsh Governments to support regional economic growth.

The new full-fibre network will offer download speeds of up to 1 Gbps and will be open access, allowing businesses to choose broadband services from multiple providers. The rollout prioritises business parks not covered by existing commercial or publicly funded programmes, ensuring broader coverage. Additional nearby homes and businesses will also benefit as the network expands, further extending gigabit-capable broadband access across the region.

Councillor Bryan Davies and Councillor Jake Berriman, Co-Chairs of the Growing Mid Wales Board, highlighted the project’s role in strengthening regional growth by providing gigabit-capable connectivity to business parks. They noted that the initiative targets premises previously excluded from other programmes, ensuring more communities and employment sites gain access to modern digital infrastructure.

As part of the contract, BT will also deliver digital skills support for SMEs in Mid Wales, including virtual workshops and tailored guidance led by industry experts. The programme aims to help businesses build digital capability and improve productivity. The announcement follows BT’s ongoing investment in Wales, where the company employs over 4,500 people and contributes £680m annually to the Welsh economy.
