BT and EE score historic double award win as studies reveal UK's best connectivity
BT and EE have been independently ranked as the UK’s top broadband and mobile networks respectively, based on nationwide performance studies. The findings highlight the impact of BT’s £40 billion investment in Full Fibre and 5G+ infrastructure.
BT’s Full Fibre network, which powers both BT and EE broadband services, has been named the UK’s best broadband provider in a study by Ookla. The analysis measured real-world performance across speed, latency, streaming, and gaming, with BT’s network delivering the fastest peak download speeds and highest average upload speeds among major providers. The study included over 104 million tests across urban, rural, and peak-time scenarios.
EE, part of the BT Group, retained its title as the UK’s best mobile network for the 13th consecutive year in RootMetrics’ annual assessment. The study evaluated mobile performance in 16 major cities, rural areas, and 21,800 miles of roads, using real-world testing conditions. EE led in 5G availability, average 5G download speeds (230.8 Mbps), and video streaming performance, outperforming competitors in most categories.
The results follow BT’s £40 billion investment in UK connectivity this decade, expanding Full Fibre and 5G+ networks to millions more homes, businesses, and communities. The studies were conducted amid growing reliance on reliable internet for daily life, work, and services, with 77% of UK residents reporting isolation without effective connectivity.
BT’s Chief Security and Networks Officer, Greg McCall, attributed the findings to the company’s sustained infrastructure improvements. He noted that the networks support families, businesses, and emergency services, enabling faster, stronger, and more secure connectivity. The Full Fibre network now serves 16% more customers since early 2026, reflecting increased demand for high-performance broadband.
